In the territory of Castiglione di Sicilia, on the northern slopes of Mount Etna, at an altitude between 580 and 600 metres<\/strong>, lies Contrada Millecocchita<\/strong>. The name recalls the historic presence in this area of large Minicucco<\/strong> trees, commonly known as European nettle trees, bearing witness to an ancient and layered landscape.<\/p>\n

The fascination of Millecocchita lies in its extraordinary volcanic morphology<\/strong>, generated by the ancient eruptions of Monte Dolce<\/strong>. The lava flows have given rise to a unique field, characterised by Hawaiian-type structures: smooth, ropy surfaces, known as pahoehoe<\/strong>, alternate with pressure ridges<\/strong> formed by gases trapped beneath the cooling crust.<\/p>\n

This soil, rich in basaltic minerals such as hawaiites<\/strong>, ensures optimal water drainage<\/strong> and prevents any waterlogging. Its high porosity<\/strong> promotes deep root development, naturally limiting vine vigour and giving the grapes a distinctive mineral finesse<\/strong>, a key element in the production of elegant, age-worthy Etna wines.<\/p>\n

The agricultural approach is focused on preserving the structure of the soil as much as possible, avoiding invasive cultivation practices and enhancing the natural features present: small caves<\/strong> and ancient lava-flow tubes<\/strong> that act as natural ventilation systems for the subsoil and provide shelter for local biodiversity.<\/p>\n

Millecocchita<\/strong> represents one of the project’s most ambitious undertakings<\/strong> and is set to become the company’s future production hub<\/strong>. Varieties such as Carricante<\/strong>, Pinot Noir<\/strong> and Chardonnay<\/strong> are cultivated here, with the aim of authentically expressing the terroir while also exploring the still untapped potential<\/strong> of this territory.<\/p>\n
